GAIA
The GAIA project envisions the creation of a Two-Sided Digital Twin (2SDT) of the territorial context, targeting local decision-makers on the one hand and all constituents of emerging communities on the other, allowing interventions to be simulated before they are made, minimizing risks and increasing the likelihood of achieving something of value to society.
The 2SDT will be developed as a cyber-physical and social system with two souls. The first is the purely digital one, consisting of models, algorithms, software modules, and data resources; the second is dedicated to the human and collaboration aspect, with tools aimed at increasing skills and simplifying access to data and applications. All of this serves to foster the achievement of critical mass in inter-disciplinary teams that can provide available resources to invent new solutions to common problems and thus create value for the community.
The 2SDT is a virtual model of the spatial context from both a structural and value and social flow perspective, so it uses models that include both the technical and socio-economic parts of the spatial context.
It is able to:
1. perceive its surroundings (physical and digital)
2. update its counterpart accordingly
3. plan and simulate changes in the surrounding environment (simulations, risk management, cause-effect analysis and identification of mitigation actions in case of social, political, climatic events, ...)
4. integrate and interact with the socio-economic system of the city, understood as a system consisting of people, relationships, value streams, knowledge and creativity of emerging communities.
To do this, the 2SDT will adopt artificial intelligence technical solutions on all levels of the technology stack:
- At the data management level, for specific data pre-processing tasks (e.g., validation and generation of synthetic data, annotation) . At this level, you will also provide an MLaaS environment for data scientists
- At the level of applications and in particular of collaboration and co-creation tools for emerging communities, evolved machine learning tools will be implemented to facilitate the formation by aggregation of multidisciplinary communities (e.g., profiling, the prescriptive recommendation to support decision-making and the development of innovative services and applications .
